    Early Voting for the June 20th Special Election Begins May 30th 2023

    FIRST DAY TO MAIL ABSENTEE BALLOTS FOR THE JUNE 20th SPECIAL ELECTION

    In the case of special elections, the board of registrars shall mail or issue official absentee ballots within three days after the receipt of such ballots, but no earlier than 22 days prior to the election. O.C.G.A. § 21-2-384(a)

    ADVANCE IN-PERSON VOTING BEGINS FOR THE JUNE 20th SPECIAL ELECTION

    There shall be a period of advance voting that shall commence on the fourth Monday immediately prior to each primary or election and as soon as possible prior to a runoff and shall end on the Friday immediately prior to such primary, election, or runoff. Advance voting shall be conducted during normal business hours on weekdays during such period. O.C.G.A. § 21-2-385(d)(1)

    MANDATORY SATURDAY VOTING

    • June 3rd 2023, 9a.m. to 5p.m.
    • June 10th 2023, 9a.m. to 5p.m.

    Voting shall be conducted beginning at 9:00 A.M. and ending at 5:00 P.M. on weekdays, other than observed state holidays, during such period and shall be conducted on the second and third Saturdays during the hours of 9:00 A.M. through 5:00 P.M. and, if the registrar or absentee ballot clerk so chooses, the second Sunday, the third Sunday, or both the second and third Sundays prior to a primary or election during hours determined by the registrar or absentee ballot clerk, but no longer than 7:00 A.M. through 7:00 P.M.

    OPTIONAL SUNDAY VOTING ON JUNE 4th 2023

    Voting may be conducted if the board of registrars so chooses on the second and third Sunday, or both the second and third Sundays prior to a primary or election during hours determined by the registrar or absentee ballot clerk, but no longer than 7:00 A.M. through 7:00 P.M. O.C.G.A. §21-2-385(d)(1)

    Deadline for Candidates to Designate Poll Watchers for the June 20th 2023 Special Election

    PLEASE CONTACT YOUR LOCAL COUNTY REPUBLICAN PARTY TO VOLUNTEER AS A POLL WATCHER!

    In an election or run-off election, candidates running in a nonpartisan election shall be entitled to designate one poll watcher in each precinct, at least seven days prior to such election or run-off election. O.C.G.A. § 21-2-408(b)(1)

    SPECIAL ELECTION FOR VACANCIES

    In odd-numbered years, a special election to fill vacancies may be held on the third Tuesday in June. O.C.G.A. § 21-2-540(c)

    POLLS ARE OPEN

    Polls open at 7:00am and close at 7:00pm. O.C.G.A. § 21-2-403

    OFFICE OF REGISTRAR AND SUPERINTENDENT TO REMAIN OPEN

    The chairman of the county board of registrars and the election superintendent shall cause their office(s) to remain open during the entire duration of each primary and election, and after the close of the polls, until completion of their duties. O.C.G.A. § 21-2-490

    TABULATION, POSTING, ETC.

    The poll manager shall post one tape showing the total votes cast for the precinct on the door of the polling place for the information of the public along with a copy of the provisional ballot recap sheet for the precinct.

    The election superintendent shall receive the memory cards from the poll managers and proceed to verify that the envelopes are sealed, remove each memory card and transfer the vote totals from the memory card to the election management system. O.C.G.A § 21-2-379.11(g); SEB Rule 183-1-12-.12

    10PM REPORT DUE TO SECRETARY OF STATE

    As soon as possible but not later than 10:00 P.M. following the close of the polls on the day of a primary, election, or runoff, the election superintendent shall report to the Secretary of State and post in a prominent public place the following information: (1) The number of ballots cast at the polls on the day of the primary, election, or runoff, including provisional ballots cast; (2) The total number of absentee ballots returned to the board of registrars by the deadline to receive such absentee ballots on the day of the primary, election, or runoff. O.C.G.A. § 21-2-421

    Deadline to Submit an Absentee Ballot Application for the July 18th 2023 Runoff

    To be timely received, an application for an absentee-by-mail ballot shall be received by the board of registrars or absentee ballot clerk no later than 11 days prior to the primary, election, or runoff. For advance voting in person, the application shall be made within the time period set forth in subsection (d) of Code Section 21-2-385. O.C.G.A. § 21-2-381(a)(1)(A)

    SPECIAL ELECTION RUNOFF

    A runoff in the case of a special election shall be held on the twenty-eighth day after the day of holding the preceding special election. O.C.G.A. § 21-2-501

    Municipal Qualifying Period Begins for 2023

    Each municipal superintendent shall designate the days of the qualifying period, which shall be no less than three days and no more than five days. The days of the qualifying period shall be consecutive days. Qualifying periods shall commence no earlier than 8:30 am on the third Monday in August immediately preceding the general election and shall end no later than 4:30pm on the following Friday. O.C.G.A. § 21-2-132(c)(3)(A)

    Earliest Day to Apply for an Absentee Ballot for the Nov 7th 2023 Election

    Except as otherwise provided in Code Section 21-2-219 or for advance voting described in subsection (d) of Code Section 21-2-385, not earlier than 78 days or less than 11 days prior to the date of the primary or election, or runoff of either, in which the elector desires to vote, any absentee elector may make, either by mail, by facsimile transmission, by electronic transmission, or in person in the registrar’s or absentee ballot clerk’s office, an application for an official ballot of the elector’s precinct to be voted at such primary, election, or runoff. To be timely received, an application for an absentee-by-mail ballot shall be received by the board of registrars or absentee ballot clerk no later than 11 days prior to the primary, election, or runoff. For advance voting in person, the application shall be made within the time period set forth in subsection (d) of Code Section 21-2-385. O.C.G.A. 21-2-540(b)

    Deadline for Voter Registration for the Sept 19th 2023 Election

    If the special election is held on one of the dates specified in O.C.G.A. § 21-2-540 to fill a vacancy in an elected county or municipal office, the registration deadline for such special election shall be at the close of business on the fifth Monday prior to the date of the special election. The special election runoff shall be a continuation of the special election for the particular office concerned. Only the electors who were duly registered to vote and not subsequently deemed disqualified to vote in the special election for candidates for that particular office shall be entitled to vote therein.
